When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.’ Paulo Coehlo
So bear with me guys. Just know that I’m absolutely cringing a little bit as I write a blog post on manifesting. It’s just so LA of me. If you know me personally, you know that I am a bit of a skeptical cynic who doesn’t tolerate New Agey nonsense. But if you know me, you also know that underneath my cold, hard skeptical shell, beats a tender and trusting heart, with a huge amount of faith that every moment is a new opportunity to align with my highest potential and purpose – and that my wildest dreams are actually available to me. Because they ARE. And I 100% believe that all of your wildest dreams are available to you too.
If you’re tuned into the wellness scene, or you follow any of those inspirational social media accounts, you’ve probably heard a lot of chatter about manifesting…and I am so aware that it really sounds like New Age nonsense. But it’s actually really legit – and it’s not that hard. We all have dreams that we want to manifest – but the fact is, some people make those dreams a reality and some people don’t. If you want to make your dreams a reality, whatever they may be, as cheesy as it sounds, you need to get versed in Manifesting 101.
What Are Your Dreams?
First things first, you need to be crystal clear on what your dreams actually ARE.
What do you want your life to look like? What is most important to you? You need to KNOW what you want, why you want it, what it will look like, and what it will feel like. You can’t get to your destination if you don’t know where you’re going. You need to decide on your destination – and then draw a map.
I recommend spending a good bit of time thinking about these questions and writing out the answers, in as much detail as possible. You might have one huge overarching dream – but a few things you want to bring to life along the way. That’s fine. Just be specific. The more specific you are, the easier it will be to gain awareness of how you align with your dreams, on a moment-to-moment basis.
Also – definitely DO talk about it with people. Don’t keep your dreams a secret. Be an open book. If people offer advice or feedback, accept it graciously – but don’t take it too personally or too seriously, if it doesn’t resonate. In the Alchemist, Paulo Coehlo says, ‘When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.’ The universe cannot help you if it doesn’t know what you want to do!
Also – you get to be EXCITED about your dreams! Your dreams should excite you! Let your dreams fire you up and fundamentally shift the way you interact with the world!
What Is Your Intention?
Once you have your vision and you know what you deeply want, you need to set an intention to help you remember to stay aligned with your dreams. Think of your intention as your spiritual support animal. Keep it with you at all times, pay attention to it, nurture it – and in return, it will keep you steady and calm.
Take some time to think about what has held you back in the past from rising up and taking ownership of your life. Maybe you procrastinate to the point of self sabotage, because you don’t trust in your own abilities. Or maybe you don’t believe you deserve what you desire. Take some time to really self reflect on what it is you need to cultivate within yourself. What quality or belief do you need to bring forth or strengthen? What quality or belief do you need to let go of? Journal about it. Then reduce all of this to its essence – to a single sentence, but frame it positively, and put it in the present tense. For example, ‘I trust in my own abilities and move forward with faith.’ Or ‘I embody strength and patience in all that I do.’
Take this intention setting seriously – it matters. Once you have your intention, repeat it to yourself every day, especially as soon as you wake up – and before you go to sleep. Your mind is melty and suggestible in these in-between times!!
Be truly open to your intention. Over time, it will start to shift your thought patterns, as well as the way you react to difficult setbacks in your daily life. Let intention be your guide. Living with intention is absolutely game-changing.
Let Go And Trust!
Final component of manifesting your dreams – LET GO and TRUST – but keep doing your part! Letting go and trusting doesn’t mean you can check out and let the manifestation magic take care of the heavy lifting. That would be ridiculous. Keep doing what needs to be done, but be patient and gentle with yourself every step of the way. You’re going to make mistakes. Not everything will go the way you want it to. And when you fail, practice real self-love by practicing self-compassion and treating yourself the way you would treat a close friend going through the same thing. Also, be aware – as you start to tap into new levels of clarity and purpose, your dreams may shift a little. Let them. Don’t be rigid. Be open to reevaluating things and receiving the messages that arrive.
To stick with Paulo Coehlo quotes: ‘There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.’
